ISOC Brasil adere à Global Encryption Coalition

 The Global Encrpytion Coalition

CDT, GPD and ISOC have joined forces to defend and promote encryption in key countries and at multilateral gatherings where it is under threat.

The focus of the Coalition is on geographies and multilateral initiatives where there is a significant possibility of making a difference because of political circumstances and prospective multistakeholder engagement. The Coalition also supports efforts by companies to offer encrypted services to their users. Its success will be measured by its ability to defeat or alter proposals that undermine encryption.

The Coalition website (https://www.globalencryption.org/) lists member organisations and individuals, and will serve as a collection of technical and policy resources and news on encryption.

Benefits of Coalition Membership

Members of the Coalition gain the support of other organisations and entities in their efforts to beat back proposals that could compromise encryption. This support comes in the form of technical expertise, legal analysis, validation by responsible stakeholders, and through global amplification of local efforts. Coalition members have access to encryption advocates around the world, and to advocacy tools such as fact sheets. The Coalition will amplify members’ voices through the Coalition website, where their local advocacy will be highlighted.

The Coalition itself does not take positions or engage in particular actions that could be ascribed to a Coalition member without its consent. Rather, members of the Coalition are invited to signal support for particular advocacy activities on a case-by-case basis. Each member of the Coalition engages on the Coalition initiatives they choose to support.

Commitments of Coalition Members

Coalition members, who will include national coalitions, civil society groups, corporations, academics, and technologists, agree to support the following statement, which is prominently featured on the Coalition website:

Encryption is a critical technology that helps keep people, their information, and communications private and secure. However, some governments and organisations are pushing to weaken encryption, which would create a dangerous precedent that compromises the security of billions of people around the world. Actions in one country that undermine encryption threaten us all.

As a global coalition, we call on governments and the private sector to reject efforts to undermine encryption and pursue policies that enhance, strengthen and promote use of strong encryption to protect people everywhere. We also support and encourage the efforts of companies to protect their customers by deploying strong encryption on their services and on their platforms.

There is no fee for joining the Coalition and no obligation to participate in particular Coalition activities. We ask that members keep other Coalition members apprised of encryption developments in their countries and in multilateral fora.
